My favourite fall decorating comes straight from nature. Whether it’s fall foliage, dried flowers, pinecones or pumpkins, these natural elements form the perfect foundation for creating quick and easy seasonal vignettes. If you prefer integrating these seasonal accents into your existing decor as I do, then I hope these quick styling ideas will give you ample inspiration. Here I’m sharing easy 5-minute fall vignettes that you can whip up in no time to create a cozy, casual feeling at home.
5-MINUTE FALL VIGNETTES
What is a vignette? A vignette is a small grouping of decorative objects that form a stylish statement within a larger space. Whether it’s a grouping of objects on a coffee table, a mantle, side table or wall (like a small gallery wall), a vignette is an easy way to add style and personality in your home.
When it comes to arranging your decor for fall, it need not take long to cozy up your space with a few well-placed vignettes.
Start by identifying 1-3 surfaces within each room you wish to decorate to add your vignettes.
Then, gather all those natural elements that appeal to you, keeping in mind the ‘colour story’ you wish to emphasize this season (whether it’s moody and muted or bright and colourful).
Then, start styling!
Here are just a few 5-minute fall vignettes I created this season that helped keep things cozy but casual in our home.
FOYER VIGNETTES
Fall is the perfect time of year to accessorize with rustic, vintage touches.
Place a bouquet of dried flowers in a sleek, modern vase – as I did on this buffet table in our foyer – and you’re all set to integrate this decorative element into any of your existing surfaces.
In fact, I’ve used this same arrangement in our dining room in previous years and it worked just as well as a stand-alone style statement.
I have several oversized pinecones and I absolutely LOVE using them in both my fall and Christmas decor.
There are so many uses, but this year I decided to experiment by casually leaning two of them on our foyer bench.
It adds a light seasonal touch and took just a few seconds to style.
I love creating unexpected seasonal touches. This branch above our bench was one of those unusual additions in our foyer.
Using a bare branch as decor is one of the easiest ways to add an artful, sculptural touch for the season.
Simply attach it to the wall using twine hung on a Command hook and you’ve got instant outdoor vibes in your space.
COFFEE TABLE VIGNETTES
We have an oversized coffee table in our living room space, so styling can be tricky. But by dividing the surface into 4 quadrants, I can style each one separately while making sure each mini vignette complements the other.
I used natural elements in each vignette, including:
– Pinecones in a bowl
– Dried grasses/foliage in a ceramic pitcher
– A pair of pillar candles
– And a stack of books with accessories on top
In essence, our coffee table has 4 vignettes styled in close proximity to form a single style statement.
No matter the angle, each vignette shines all on its own regardless of where we are sitting or standing in our space.
DINING ROOM TABLE & BUFFET VIGNETTES
Behind our living room area is our dining room space where I’ve simply and minimally styled two surfaces: the dining room table and buffet table.
During the past couple of seasons, I’ve kept the dining room table simply decorated with a single vase of dried flowers, sometimes accompanied by a small bowl or other object. This year, I’ve added a bowl of mini pinecones for an extra touch of the outdoors.
Striking a balance between the modern black and white accents and rustic seasonal touches makes this vignette all the more edgy and interesting as well.
Behind our dining room table is a matching buffet.
Rather than clearing out all my accessories, I simply added this ceramic vase with a grouping of faux florals to create a casual, autumnal aesthetic.
These two vignettes are simple, minimal and integrate naturally within my overall decorating design.
KITCHEN ISLAND VIGNETTE
Here on our kitchen island, I added the most rustic wild stems I could find out in the forest. They had already dried and withered by the time I came across them. I loved the gnarled look and picked them for this display, making sure to add a few golden ‘Billy Balls’ I had on hand.
Repeating what I already had in our foyer, I laid out two large pinecones to complete the casual fall vibe in this display.
This particular vignette was a joy to create and integrated seamlessly into our existing neutral palette.
CONSOLE TABLE VIGNETTE
I recently drew inspiration from a mix of wildflowers I picked this summer during a walk with my husband. I had gathered several gold, purple, and white florals, letting them dry upside down for several weeks and recently added a small bunch to this console table in our Great Room.
Nothing fancy or fussy, these wildflowers added a soft, slightly ‘wild’ touch to this otherwise modern and minimally-decorated console table.
They were a wonderful way to reference some of the other dried flower touches throughout our Great Room space.
SIDE TABLE VIGNETTE
Lastly, mini pumpkins are an exceptionally easy way to give a nod to harvest season.
Just sprinkle them into a display or simply add them to a bowl as I did here and you’ve got instant, fall vibes in your space.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I hope these easy 5-minute fall vignettes have given you some simple ways to add a subtle, rustic fall feeling into your home. It not need take much time and can add a lot of interest into your home this season.
Happy decorating 🙂
