This year I’ve incorporated a number of Christmas village vignettes into my holiday decor. Whether it’s a classic grouping of homes or a display featuring one home, they add so much charm! And yet, there’s nothing dated or tacky about these village homes. In today’s post, I’m sharing my take on this time-honoured decor classic with these 5 Modern Christmas Village Decorating Ideas.
5 MODERN CHRISTMAS VILLAGE DECORATING IDEAS
1. A Large-Scale Grouping
Perhaps the most well known Christmas village styling is just that: a village. Namely, several homes in various sizes all grouped together.
In my modern take on the Christmas village, I decided to go big with these slightly over-sized homes.
And instead of typical ceramic, I went with metal in varying shades from charcoal to gun metal grey.
And what’s a village without trees? Here, I’m using large-scale bottle brush trees in non-traditional colours of grey, beige and black.
2. Corralled on a Tray
Instead of lining homes up on a mantle or console, why not scatter them on a table? Here, on my coffee table, I created two vignettes using trays.
Although each tray has all the classic elements: a village home and bottle brush trees or greenery, they create distinct homesteads while feeling like a single, large display. There’s even a village deer nearby!
3. Integrated Into a Display
Instead of the Christmas village taking center-stage, why not incorporate 2 or 3 into a larger display, while still keeping some classic elements?
I used this idea as a jumping off point in three areas of my home starting with my entryway. Here, I decided to sprinkle a few homes on the surface of our sideboard.
I also did the same in our Great Room where I incorporated a village home or two into two other displays.
First, next to our kitchen, is a console table where I added two tiny village homes – both are ornaments – that blend seamlessly into this Scandi chic display.
The second display in our Great Room is this decorated set of floating cubbies. Here, I’ve incorporated two village homes into a much larger holiday-themed display of ornaments and greenery.
4. A Solitary Home
Some homes deserve to take center-stage, don’t you think?
Next to our faux fiddle leaf tree, I added another modern home made of metal. This time, I’ve placed it on a faux white shag rug which really adds a cool winter vibe here.
You may have caught a glimpse of my recent Simple Kitchen Christmas Vignettes blog post where I shared how I added some subtle holiday style here. If you did, then you would have already seen this adorable thrifted ceramic home. It added the perfect ‘wintery’ touch to this minimalist kitchen vignette.
5. On A Christmas Tree
Finally, another place where you might capture a Christmas village vibe is right on your Christmas tree.
Can you spot the Christmas village homes here?
Besides the usual bulbs and ribbons, I also added a few items that could be found in and around a village, such as birds, deer, and trees 🙂
So that’s some of what I’ve got going on in my holiday decorating this year. I hope you got some inspiration for updating and styling the classic Christmas village. It’s a great way to add a bit of tradition and a little modern whimsy to your holiday decor this year 🙂
Happy decorating 🙂
