Wreaths are among the most versatile holiday decor items. Not only are they great for your front door, but you can use them in unique and stylish ways throughout your home. That’s why today I’m sharing my favourite Christmas Wreath Ideas to give you ample inspiration for your own festive displays this season.
CHRISTMAS WREATH IDEAS
13 festive ways to decorate with wreaths
1. High Impact Gallery Wall
In my Nature-Inspired Christmas Home Tour last year, I shared the process (in the video portion) of creating this eclectic wall display in our entryway. Each of the wreaths were either pre-made or made on-the-spot with a few spare craft materials. And, voila! We had a high impact statement that greeted our guests as they walked through the front door.
2. Pared Back Elegance
If keeping it minimal is your thing, then you’ve probably already tried – or wanted to try – decorating with a ring wreath. With just a few supplies you can make your own ring wreaths in minutes. I think the humble ring wreath is so pretty and it can be used year after in just about any room.
3. Inside Your Front Door
I’ve often hung wreaths on the interior side of our front door during the year and the holidays are no different. Whether you choose a traditional round wreath or this simple DIY Swag, it is a great way to add a festive touch.
4. Craft a Foraged Wreath
This would not be a post on A Pretty Fix without mentioning a fresh DIY wreath. Whether you have access to a wooded area, as I did for the one above (see how to make it in this “Decorate My Front Porch” video), or if you purchase greenery at your local grocery or greenhouse (as I did for this DIY Boxwood Wreath and this DIY Fresh Winter Wreath tutorial), there are plenty of ways you can create a handmade winter wreath for your holiday displays at home.
5. Replace a Piece of Art or Framed Picture
If you’re not sure where to place an additional wreath indoors, the easiest spot is often where you normally hang a framed photo or art piece. Remove the artwork (like the one we’ve got on this wall below)…
…and simply hang the wreath on the nail or hook already there.
This is such an easy hack and one that I often use when I need that extra little something along a wall to create design balance in my space.
6. Hang on a Window
I often look for ‘blank spaces’ where I can hang a wreath. The row of windows in our living room is one such spot and it was on full display in my Christmas Home Tour last year. I used a removable wall hook and it worked well for this purpose.
You can also do the same on sliding doors making sure to hang your wreath where it does not obstruct your ability to open them.
Whether you hang just one or hang several, it’s a lovely nod to the outdoors without obstructing your view.
7. Hang Over Cupboard Doors
If you have a lot of cupboard doors, one easy way to add a festive touch is with small wreaths. Simply drape an extra long ribbon over the cupboard door, taping the top portion to the back, and you’ve got instant holiday appeal. You can check out the full tour of our kitchen, dining room, and living room in this video Christmas Home Tour here (catch a glimpse of my cupboard hack at round the 8 and a half minute mark).
8. Craft a Felt Wreath for a Unique Display
If you’re looking for unique wreath ideas, then a DIY Felt Wreath may be the thing for you. Choose any colour to match your decor and have fun creating this minimal, modern beauty.
9. Hang Above a TV or Piece of Furniture
If you’ve got a large blank wall above your TV or above a key piece of furniture, a wreath is a great way to fill that space. Watching holiday classics on TV with a festive wreath above, just makes it extra Christmas-sy!
10. Create a Linear Grouping
Speaking of large, blank walls, hanging a series of wreaths in a linear grouping is another high-impact method of adding a festive touch indoors. Simply use some removable wall hooks and you’ve got the makings of a Pinterest-worthy holiday home display.
11. Frame It
This DIY Dollar Store Antler Wreath was a cinch to make and easy on the budget. Add it to any surface, tabletop display, or on a sliver of wall space that needs a little extra something on it. You can check out this and other dollar store craft ideas in my video tutorial here: 5 Modern Dollar Store Christmas Craft Ideas.
12. Place Over a Mirror or Two
I’m always partial to seeing a wreath hung over a mirror or a pair of mirrors (as above). Whether it’s the way it draws your eye up or how the light bounces off this reflective surface, a wreath on a mirror always feels extra stylish in a space.
13. Use it for a Classic Front Door Display
Last, but certainly not least, this classic display of a Christmas wreath is a must for any true home decor enthusiast. Whether you have lots of space around your front door, or just a sliver, there are plenty of style options from rustic to modern to creating a welcoming front door display.
I hope you enjoyed today’s round-up of these Christmas Wreath Ideas. I’ll definitely be using some of these in our home again this year and adding one or two new ideas to keep things fresh.
Happy decorating 🙂
