Happy Monday everyone! Today I’m excited to be sharing my colorful curated outdoor patio. Some of you already know that I recently shared a patio decor haul on Facebook Live and now I’m ready to show you all the final reveal!
I’m also being joined today by my blogging pals – Katrin from KreativK, Tanya from TwelveOeight, and Kellie from Gratefully Vintage – who are sharing their gorgeous outdoor spaces today. These ladies never cease to amaze me with their style tips and tricks, so don’t forget to check out the links to their outdoor spaces at the bottom of this post.
My Colorful Curated Outdoor Patio
As you know, I am not normally carried away by color in my home. A subtle, subdued palette tends to be my preferred choice these days. But when it comes to the outdoors, I really wanted to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere to be enjoyed not only by me and hubby, but by our guests.
Seeing that a picture is worth a thousand words, then I’ll let the photos do all the talking today 🙂
Here is the ‘Before’ picture of our neutral patio space.
And here, with a well-placed and curated assortment of eclectic patio decor, is the ‘After.’
(Most of the decor pieces came from Home Sense Canada. For more on brand names, check out the description in my Facebook Live Patio Decor Haul).
Tips On How To Incorporate Color Without Compromising on Style
When deciding to incorporate pops of color into a neutral space – whether indoors or out – creating a cohesive look (as opposed to something that’s mismatched or messy) can be tricky. Here are some quick tips that will make adding color a whole lot easier:
1. Choose No More Than 3-5 Colors: The more colors you use, the more difficult it will be to make a space feel pulled together. By limiting your colors to 3-5, and sticking to it, it will be easier to make the space feel cohesive.
2. Repeat Each Color 3 times: For a space to feel pulled together, each of the colors should be spread throughout. Two times minimum, but three is optimal. This way, the entire space harmonizes visually. If you take a quick peak at my own patio, you will be able to spot each of the three colors I chose (blue, green, and yellow) repeated at least three times throughout the space.
3. Use Diverse Materials: When repeating your colors, choose a variety of materials that incorporates each color. Use pillows, throws, and planters, for example, each containing at least one of your chosen colors. Not only will your space feel put together, but using diverse materials will ensure that your colors are spread out.

June 4, 2018 at 8:36 pmThat’s so sweet of you to say, Debby! I don’t use enough blues indoors, but they seemed to work quite well in our patio area. Or maybe it was just an excuse to go shopping 😉 Thanks for popping by 🙂

June 4, 2018 at 12:52 pmHow lovely Jelica. Your patio space looks so warm and inviting, although I must admit I had to think twice before using those words. The colors are very calming and cool, which is probably why “warm and inviting” sounds like a contradiction. Oh, Lordy, I hope I’m making sense here. Either way, it looks like the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long hot day in the garden and that succulent pillow is GORGEOUS!! I need one of those

June 4, 2018 at 8:39 pmI totally get what you’re trying to convey, Michelle. Lots of cool tones in this space, but I had hoped to add some warmth, too, which I am so glad you see in the space. We’re going to be entertaining in it next weekend and really hoped to make it welcoming. And, yes, that pillow was a real find!

April 24, 2022 at 2:59 pmWhere did you get the oversize umbrella
Jelica
June 12, 2022 at 1:38 pmI purchased it at a local store that specializes in outdoor furniture. It’s not a chain or franchise (as far as I know), so I don’t actually know the brand of the umbrella. If you do happen to live in or near the Ottawa area, it was purchased at Club Piscine: https://clubpiscine.ca/en
