Easy Boho DIY Macrame Coasters – MATERIALS NEEDED
- Macrame cord (I used this single twist, 5mm cord, but any other will do)
- Sharp scissors (I love these craft scissors)
- ½ inch dowel (or stick) or even a piece of sturdy cardboard or foot-long ruler, etc
Optional: Garment rack or access to a hanging rod (like the kind you’d find in a bedroom closet or bathroom) + 2 “S” hooks (make sure to find the right size for the coat rack/rod you’ll be hanging them from)
Your Set-Up – 2 Options
Macrame can either be done 1.) on a table, with your cords secured by a weight or a pin OR 2.) with your cords hanging from a rod like a bathroom rod or coat rack rod.
(To see an example of the first set up, go here → DIY Mini Macrame Wall Hanging).
Today’s tutorial demonstrates option #2.
Without further adieu, here is how to make a pretty pair of DIY Macrame Coasters for your home.

July 10, 2019 at 9:48 amThank you, Neeti! Sometimes simple can be downright beautiful and these coasters show that. The texture is lovely and I enjoy using them in our living room, even if it’s just to look at them 🙂 Take care, my friend!

March 28, 2020 at 8:38 pmI bought 5mm rope cording that you recommended and it’s too thick. Is it 3mm that you used?

April 5, 2020 at 9:31 pmHi Jeanette – Sorry to hear this! I used the 5mm macrame, as indicated. However, I’ve also noticed that, depending on the seller, sizing does not seem to be standard. I recently purchased what was advertised as 3mm macrame string, but it was thicker than my 5mm! So, why the difference? From what I can tell, the 3mm is an extremely soft string that is not nearly as tightly wrapped as my 5mm string. Of course, I didn’t know this until it arrived. If buying from Etsy, I would recommend asking the seller to send a picture next to a measuring stick to determine exactly how thick it really is. I hope this helps!
