I’ve always been a fan of Scandinavian decor and design. Much of what I love about it is its spare and minimal aesthetic and approach to style. Whether it is modern or rustic, it is always tasteful and nearly always fits into most people’s home decor (just ask the founders of IKEA :) ). So when I was thinking about how I might fill this sliver of a space on our walk-out (pictured below), it occurred to me that something lean and sculptural would be the perfect fit. And that’s how this DIY Scandi-inspired blossom branch idea was born.
This craft is incredibly simple to create and very versatile as far as decor goes. Indoors or out, hung on a wall or a door, laid out on a table, console or buffet or placed in a vase, this piece has so many great applications. And, best of all, it is budget-friendly!
MATERIALS
- decorative branch(es)
- synthetic blossoms
- floral wire
- wire clippers
- (optional) vine-wrapped wire
- (optional) spray paint (not pictured)
- (optional) acrylic paint & brush (not pictured)
STEPS
Step 1 (Optional): Spray Paint Branches
For this project, I gathered 2 decorative branches to create a fuller look. If yours are different colours, spray paint them the same colour, as I did here.
Step 2 (Optional): Attach Branches
If you are starting with multiples, attach your branches. Depending on the thickness of your pieces, you should use a floral wire and/or grapevine wire to attach, one at the base and, if necessary, one or tow other places where the branches meet. Spray paint (or apply acrylic paint) to match the wire to the branches.
If you choose to hang the blossom branch on a hook, take one of your wires and create a loop. Paint the wire (I had to adjust a few times and later touched it up, but you get the idea…).
Tip: To ensure the wire does not slide up, create the loop under an extending branch or bulge (or simply use some hot glue to keep it in place).
Step 3: Attach Blossoms
Attach each blossom using floral wire. Spread your blossoms out.
Clip off the ends to shape as you wish.
Step 4: Display & Enjoy!
Hope you try this cute little Scandi-inspired blossom branch. Such a versatile craft that can be displayed both indoors and out.
Happy crafting 🙂

July 22, 2016 at 2:20 pmThanks Celeste! I was happy with how easy this pretty little piece was to make. It was a great way to do something with that empty wall space, making it a little more inviting to sit in. And, I agree, this is a versatile piece that can be used indoors too and in all sorts of applications, not just on a wall 😉 Take care!
