Welcome to my Fall Great Room Tour! October is finally here and I am already wearing cozy socks and sweaters – seriously, it’s feeling more like late fall around here. Today, I wanted to celebrate the cozy season by sharing how I’ve decorated our Great Room for fall. It’s always challenging decorating an open-concept space. But in repeating colours and materials throughout, our home is cohesive without feeling ‘matchy-matchy.’ In today’s tour, we will meander through different areas of the Great Room, including the living room area, dining room, and, lastly, the kitchen. Each is styled with seasonal elements in muted colourways creating a casual, cozy vibe.
So grab your favourite hot beverage and let’s start the tour!

FALL GREAT ROOM TOUR
As someone who LOVES THE NATURAL WORLD, I’ve always been inspired to use elements from the outdoors to reflect the changing seasons. While past fall tours have focused on dried materials in earthy tones, this year, I was CRAVING A LITTLE COLOUR in my life and decided to take a page out of the hues found in nature’s bounty.
As you’ll see, FALL PRODUCE AND AUTUMN FOLIAGE IN VIBRANT, BUT MUTED TONES, dot the landscape of our Great Room. And while oversized, brightly-coloured pumpkins do not make an appearance, there are several SUBTLE NODS to some of AUTUMN’S MOST WELL-KNOWN PRODUCE. A fun and whimsical way to celebrate the season, starting with our coffee table.
I love the gnarled look of gourds. When I saw them in our local grocery store, I instantly knew I wanted to style our space with them.
Of course, the centerpiece of our coffee table is this mix of faux florals with all but the burgundy foliage pulled from storage. All the rest of the TABLETOP DECOR I’ve had for a while now – including books, bamboo bowl, and vessel – and all are either THRIFTED, VINTAGE, OR DISCOUNT ITEMS from HomeSense.
New to this living room sofa are these PILLOW COVERS IN SOFT, MUTED TONES. The light brown linen covers came as a pack of two. Affordable and lightweight, they add a lovely, natural touch here.
The light charcoal and ivory lumbar pillow cover is a recent purchase and I am just loving it! I had been looking for something in a soft charcoal, but wanted a bit of pattern play and this one fit the bill.
As for the rest of our textiles, all are familiar to regular readers of the blog: NEUTRAL PILLOWS AND THROW BLANKETS within reach.
You can find the velvet (khaki) corduroy pillow covers here in various colours, similar black velvet covers here, and similar throw blankets here, here, and here.
On the sidetable between our armchairs is a DECORATIVE BOWL FILLED WITH MINI PUMPKINS. It was a simple arrangement that added a sweet autumnal touch.
Next to our TV are these brown seeded eucalyptus stems placed in this washed out sage green stoneware vase. I used only two stems and bent and shaped them into an asymmetrical shape for some added visual interest.
Behind our living room area is our dining room where the main attraction is this muted but still vibrant pop of faux Japanese maple stems. One of my favourite online finds. (See my unboxing of these and other autumn favourites in my Instagram Stories here).
I really wanted these to look like BRANCHES plucked straight from nature, bending and shaping them to create a NATURAL LOOK AND FEEL.
These MINI PUMPKINS next to the vase add another layer of colour to complement the stems, but without taking the spotlight away from them.
Behind our dining table is this buffet that I wanted to decorate without going over-the-top. Adding a few groupings of WHITE MINI PUMPKINS was the perfect way to repeat the pumpkin theme but in a soft and subtle way.
Finally, next to our dining room area is the kitchen. In keeping with the theme of autumn’s bounty, I simply filled an WOOD BOWL WITH SEASONAL APPLES, flanked on either side with CANDLES AND A THRIFTED CARVED-WOOD VASE. Nothing fancy, but it adds a nice seasonal touch here, too.
These pretty blown glass candlestick holders along with these sweet swirled candles (which come in various colours) add a soft touch to this vignette.
I came across this unique, wood-carved vase at Value Village which I filled with this faux autumn berry bundle purchased last season.
Thanks for stopping by for our Fall Great Room Tour. I hope this little tour filled with fall foliage and autumn’s bounty has you feeling inspired to enjoy the season ahead.
As always, leave me a comment and let me know what you are doing to celebrate autumn.
