As many of you know, I love adding seasonal decor to our home. Any excuse to decorate is fine by me π For fall, I normally shy away from bright autumnal colours like orange – it reminds me too much of the gaudier aspects of fall decorating. But after sharing – both here and on YouTube – this Foraged Fall Wreath DIY using orange berries as the ‘touch of the season’ my respect for traditional autumnal colours was renewed! So this year, I decided to add subtle hits of orange all throughout my home. Yep, I did it. And for this neutral-decor-loving gal, it was – surprisingly – the perfectΒ hit of colour needed to add a little cheer into our home.Β So if you’re curious to see how this all turned out, then grab a cup of pumpkin spice latte and join me as I take you on this Cozy & Comfy Fall Home Tour π
Cozy & Comfy Fall Home Tour
When walking into our Great Room space – which is one large open concept area encompassing our living room, dining room, and kitchen – not much has changed. This is our ‘living room’ space below.
But when you take a closer look, you’ll see that I’ve added subtle hits of orange, ‘wheat’ and soft green tones all throughout the space.
This wreath DIY was so easy to make:Β 1 garland of berries wrapped around 1 metal ring + a simple black and white striped ribbon. Simple, subtle and pretty.
When it comes to accessories on the coffee table, I added this stylish circular trio to break up the straight lines of the table and space layout. To create the vignette itself I used something new (the trio of velvet pumpkins), something old (the pumpkin vase, the spray-painted pumpkin and the antlers), and something vintage (both the wood bowl and woven basket).
Directly across the coffee table is the area next to our TV unit – one of my favourite spots to style.
This owl pillow is my favourite accessory! I move it around the house often, especially when I need that extra hit of quirkiness π
Diagonally across from our TV is this IKEA Ektorp couch which was easy to style. I simply swapped out our old pillows for the gorgeous pair you see below. The knitted pillow adds more texture to the space and for a pop of the season, I paired that up with that delicious orange pillow – both were purchased at Bouclair.
Our second IKEA Ektorp also got the autumn style treatment with something old (that fur rug and bird pillow) and something new (that stunning macrame pillow also purchased at Bouclair).
Directly behind this couch is our dining area which I always decorate according to the season. And the ‘piece de resistance’ is that simple DIYΒ Fall Pumpkin Tabletop Centerpiece which I shared recently on the blog.
The pumpkin centerpiece required a basket, a bed of moss, pumpkins and floral decor. It takes just minutes to make and is an easy way to integrate a bit of the season into any space.
(The original versionΒ I made, however, was a pretty-in-pink floral pumpkin centerpiece that created a lush and layered look that you can easily recreate if you’re looking for a more formal look).
Next to our dining area is the kitchen island and console table.
On our kitchen island is this lightweight bamboo vase with these pretty rust-yellow buds on them. It makes a great statement piece all on its own, but looks great next to that small, plastic pumpkin I spray-painted white a few seasons ago.
The console table and gallery wall display next to the kitchen still remains one of my favourite areas in the Great Room.Β So much eye candy! And yet the only hit of the season is that small sprig of berries and leaves in that vintage hands planter that I scored this summer .
(You can check out all my recent vintage finds on Facebook Live Here –>Β Thrifted Vintage Decor Haul).
But perhaps the spot that warms this cat-loving gal’s heart the most is the one where Burger the cat lies happily sleeping (and quite oblivious to the clicking of my camera π ).
All that was added to that part of the living room area was that lovely, white velvet pumpkin. It was the perfect little hit of the season that this space needed.
Well, I hope you got some inspiration from this Cozy & Comfy Fall Home Tour. I never thought I’d return to using orange again as my pop of colour for autumn, but I am happy with how it turned out. While whites, creams and wood tones continue to predominate, I was able to integrate subtle pops of orange, ‘wheat’ and soft green hues here and there and, in such a way, that it felt quite natural in the neutral aesthetic of our Great Room.
Regardless of YOUR style and preference, I do hope you were inspired by this take on traditional autumnal decorating.
Happy styling π

October 19, 2018 at 2:03 pmHi Teresa! The throw came from a discount goods store we have up here in Canada called Home Sense. Just checked the label: “City Chic.” I’ve had the darndest time trying to find them online. If you do, let me know ’cause I love seeing their decor pop up at Home Sense π

December 31, 2018 at 9:47 pmThe accents that you added throughout your home were perfect- just the right amount in my opinion! They weren’t overwhelming or gaudy but definitely gives you a sense of the season. I particularly love your brass table lamp and the candleholder- where’d you get those from!?

January 15, 2019 at 7:28 pmThank you! I do love subtle touches and love seeing restraint in decor, too. The task lamp can be found on Amazon and I discussed that in a previous blog post here: https://aprettyfix.com/console-table-style-refresh/ As for the candle holder, that was a random find at Home Sense (a decor and furniture discount store in across Canada). I haven’t found one quite like it since, but I know they’re out there! Sometimes Etsy has similar ones or you may try places like Urban Outfitters. Good luck!
