I have to say, fall is one of my favourite times of year to decorate our home, especially our front porch.
And I don’t mind saying that my outdoor style is easy to recreate anywhere! That’s because I use the same two staples for decorating outdoors: mums and pumpkins.
Like a basic white T-shirt and a pair of jeans, mums and pumpkins are a no-brainer for me, making it so easy to decorate our porch for fall.
Whether you’ve got ample porch space or hardly any room, a lot of steps or just one or two, adding mums and pumpkins is a great way to add loads of curb appeal without trying too hard.
And with so many colours and combinations to choose from, your front porch will always look fresh and new, year after year.

Tips To Keep Your Mums & Pumpkins Last Longer Outdoors
for those of you who don’t trust yourself with actual plants (me included!), here are some tried and true tips to keeping your potted mums and pumpkins stay fresher for longer:
MUMS
– Remove any blooms that are dead or dying by popping off the head of each flower. This is called ‘dead-heading’ your mums. This makes space for new blooms.
– Make sure the soil is moist to the touch. Mums that have not been re-potted (as mine have not), need to be watered almost daily. (If you find your mums beginning to wilt, then you’ve over-watered, so keep a close eye on that).
PUMPKINS
– Wash your pumpkins in a vinegar bath OR spray them down (one part vinegar to one part water) to slow the growth of bacteria so your pumpkins will stay fresher for longer.
– Place a blanket or burlap cover over pumpkins during a frost or, better yet, bring them up onto your porch or inside overnight.
***All my pumpkins came from the Fallowfield Tree Farm here in Ottawa, Ontario.
***All my fall mums came from the Carleton Place Nursery just outside of Ottawa, Ontario.
I hope you were inspired with these fall porch ideas and decor finds.
Happy decorating!
