Minimal Vintage Floral Wreath

Today’s craft post is a little unusual, I must admit.  It comes out of a season of experimentation with some of my favourite crafts. (Sometimes you just want to shake things up a bit! – or at least as much as a nerdy crafter can muster anyway πŸ˜‰ ).  Out of it emerged the idea of creating this minimal vintage floral wreath – but with a decided twist.  A 3-in-1 twist, to be exact πŸ˜‰  And I absolutely loved how this turned out.

~This DIY first appeared on the home & lifestyle blog, Pastels and Macarons ~

Create something utterly unique for your front door decor with this long and delicate minimal vintage floral wreath. It is the perfect twist on a traditional craft that you will love to hang! (Easily comes apart to hang as single wreaths, too!) | APRETTYFIX.COM

Although I love traditional wreath forms, I am a big admirer of wreaths that are uncommon and a little less ordinary in both shape and texture.

(For some of my favourite wreath DIYs, check out my DIY (faux) Wildflower Wreath, or my Pretty Pinecone Wreath, or my tutorial on How To Make a Boxwood Wreath).

The inspiration for this particular wreath first started over at Making it in the Mountains. I loved how Kristi created a simple wreath using grapevine wire. I then decided to use this idea as a jumping-off point for creating this 3-ring wreath form that I’d already been contemplating.

So, if you’re up for something a little different, then I’ll show you how you can create this 3-in-1 minimal vintage floral wreath in just a few simple steps.

STEPS to make this Minimal Vintage Floral Wreath

Step 1:  Clip Off Grapevine

Clip off 1 strand of grapevine. Fold in half.

Tip:  You will need about three times the length of (folded) grapevine to create the circumference of each circle.

Step 2:  Create Loops

At the folded end of the grapevine, take the vine on the left and cross over the vine on the right.

And remember, you can always separate each ring to create a more traditional front door wreath. Just be careful unraveling the grapevine as it may come off the wire.

I don’t know which version I like more!

Grapevine wire must be the greatest thing invented since computers! You can do so much with it and it looks so pretty. Jelica I love your floral wreath, and I popped over to Maria’s and had a look too. Really great job. They look so fresh and pretty!

It’s such a great crafting material to work with Mary. I have more left over and hope to use it up for some more craft projects in the future. Glad you popped over at my post on Maria blog (Pastels & Macarons). A different look, for sure. It speaks to the variations that you can achieve with this type of wreath πŸ™‚

Jelica, that is so pretty and delicate. Different too. I’m not familiar with grapevine like that on a spool. Where did you find that? The wreath is lovely and very appealing. It’s an easy tutorial.

Thanks Florence! I picked up the wire at a Michael’s craft store. Sometimes it may be called ‘vine wrapped’ wire. Here is one I found on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2wuH8Ol. Take care!

That is so pretty! Love both versions but the three minis would look great on a door or wall. Will have to experiment with grapevine cord and see what I come up with! Visiting from Sweet Inspiration Party.

Wow, this is so pretty. I’d never heard of grapevine wire before seeing this on Pastels and Macaroons. It looks beautiful all twisted up and the flowers you chose are so pretty. I better go look for some because it looks so versatile and makes a beautiful wreath.

Thanks so much Toni! It is a sweet wire that I’ve used in other projects. It comes in handy for a wide variety of applications, but I love it best of wreaths. It definitely dresses up a plain wire beautifully.
