I am super excited to be sharing today’s DIY. It came about while I was trying to design a different sort of wreath altogether. But once I laid out all the greenery that I had purchased, I soon visualized an entirely new design for my wreath. The result is this modern minimal DIY wreath which took me just 20 minutes to create. In no time, I had a gorgeous, soft green wreath ready to hang on my front door. If you are looking for a quick and easy project to spruce up your home this season, then this just might be the perfect little DIY to tackle for your front door decor.
MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS MODERN MINIMAL DIY WREATH
~The following contains affiliate links at no extra cost to you. Please see my full disclosure policy here.~
- 18″ biodegradable wreath form (or simply cut cardboard to size)
- synthetic ‘dusty’ greenery (like these ones or these ones)
- 22-gauge floral wire
- wire cutters
STEPS
Step 1: Snip Stems
Snip off the stems of your synthetic greenery, making sure to keep the stems as long as possible. (It’s always better to have the option to shorten later, if needed.)
Step 2: Begin Wrapping Wire Around Wreath Form
Biodegradable wreath forms often come with holes in them. I used this to my advantage by slipping the end of the wire through one of the holes.
Then wrap around the base a few times. This will secure the wire to the wreath form before you start.
Pro Tip: Don’t snip the wire off. Keep it attached to the paddle until the entire project is complete. It will make for a much stronger and more secure final product.
Step 3: Cluster Greenery Together
Taking a few stems, cluster the greenery together into a bunch. I used two types of greenery.
Place this cluster against the wreath form by placing the stems on top of where the wire is wrapped around the base.
Wrap the wire around the bottom portion of the stems 4 or 5 times, or until it feels secure.
Step 4: Continue To Cluster & Attach
Add your next cluster on top of the first cluster, moving slightly to the right. Make sure to cover the wire.
Unravel your wire paddle enough so that you reach the stems of the second cluster; wrap around the base just as you did with the first cluster. Then, continue adding clusters and attaching the stems, making your way around the wreath form.
Below: Here is what the back of the wreath form looks like when the entire wreath form is finished. Notice that there are no breaks between the wire. Once a cluster was added. the wire extends diagonally to reach the next cluster where the wire is wrapped around 4 or 5 times around each stem.
Step 5: Hang & Enjoy!
Now, simply hang your modern minimal DIY wreath!
I really hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial as much as I enjoyed creating it 🙂
Happy wreath-making 🙂

March 12, 2018 at 6:20 pmThanks so much Katerina! I’ve been seeing so many dusty green options at my local craft store. Every time they turn up, I grab a bunch knowing that I’ll be incorporating them into one craft project or another 🙂

March 21, 2018 at 7:39 pmI think it’s that ‘dusty’ green appearance that makes them look a little more life-like, Michelle. And, yes, it’s definitely a great evergreen craft that can be used for any season of the year. I am already envisioning all the different places where I’ll be hanging it, indoors and out 🙂

March 15, 2018 at 10:37 pmI like your wreath Jelica. The soft greens of those “plants” look so appealing. And isn’t it amazing how they’re able to get faux greenery to look so real these days? I like the minimalistic look too. Sometimes less is more.

March 21, 2018 at 7:41 pmThank you, Florence! Less is definitely more in this case – I totally agree. The greens speak for themselves and, grouped together, they have a big impact.

March 16, 2018 at 12:49 amJelica I really love these types of simple wreaths. They let mother nature shine through. You know I also used to make my wreaths like this with just a piece of cardboard for the base. They are very easy to make and no one is the wiser.

March 21, 2018 at 7:43 pmSometimes it’s fun just to get back to basics with wreaths – I totally agree with you on that, Mary. A basic wreath form and some greenery or just some flowers have such a big impact. And all it takes is maybe 10-20 minutes to make 🙂
