As winter approaches, I’ve found myself with a whole lot less energy. How about you? Every little chore has felt like a Herculean task! Even decorating for the holidays – which I normally look forward to – has me feeling like I am pushing a very large boulder up a very steep hill! As a result, things have come along more slowly than I’d like. But thankfully, I’m almost there and am ready to open my home, at least in part, to share our Natural Holiday Foyer Decorating which I hope will give you some ideas for your own home this season.
Okay, let’s dive in!

NATURAL HOLIDAY FOYER DECORATING
My approach to holiday decorating is typically infused with a lot of NATURAL ACCENTS, whether faux or real, that are displayed in SIMPLE AND ELEGANT VIGNETTES. Keeping things simple for me means swapping out foliage and adding just a few key items to keep things feeling FRESH AND UNFUSSY.
For our foyer this year, I’ve used a few key staples that include GREENERY (oodles of it!), along with festive touches of PINECONES, RIBBONS, and a PLAID THROW BLANKET that gives a casual, relaxed vibe.
The first thing one sees upon entering our home is this SEATING NOOK. With a show-stopping vintage-inspired gallery wall above our bench, I knew I needed to exercise restraint with the rest of my Christmas decor.
I picked up this RED PLAID THROW BLANKET last year at my local Home Sense which offers discounted decor not available online. However, you can find SIMILAR THROWS online HERE and HERE.
As I mentioned in my Fall Foyer Refresh recently, the SPINDLE BACK BENCH was a Wayfair find – tricky to put together, fyi, and with mixed reviews online, but it works very well for us – and the GALLERY WALL includes prints I framed a couple of seasons back. You can find them HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Next to the bench is this FAUX TEARDROP SWAG I’ve been using for years now. By adding THIS BROWN VELVET RIBBON it instantly elevated the look and feel of this lovely holiday wall accent.
Across from our foyer bench is an oversized mirror and buffet table that reflect a bit of that holiday feel but in a soft and subtle way. In times past, I’ve often found THIS SURFACE DIFFICULT TO DECORATE. But after putting together two simple vignettes this past fall which flank the mirror, I’m now finding this area easy to decorate.
Along the right side of the buffet is this vintage-inspired vignette where I SWAPPED OUT FALL FOLIAGE for this SINGLE-STEM FAUX PINE that I’ve had for years. (A LITTLE WORSE FOR WEAR, but it still works!).
While not very ‘Christmassy,’ just behind the ceramic container (a thrift find from Value Village) is this lovely framed piece (a print of an original artwork by Canadian artist Susan Krieg, called “Benediction”). Its MUTED GREEN TONES work well with all my other GREEN ACCENTS.
Along the left side, I chose to add these MOSS-COVERED PINECONES (faux) in a THRIFTED WOOD BOWL. I purchased these at my local Home Sense and though I don’t see similar options online, I did find these natural alternatives on Etsy HERE.
The entire vignette along this side is exactly as I had styled it this fall, including this stack of books (The Complete Book of Nature Crafts and Call It Home by Amber Lewis) next to this homemade lamp (a hack consisting of a small, wireless lamp tucked inside a stoneware vase). So it was easy to add a NATURAL TOUCH WITH THESE MOSS-COVERED PINECONES to complete the look.
Tucked away at the far end of our foyer next to our front door is another door leading to a teeny-tiny den where I added this minimal DIY wreath using a few stems of faux eucalyptus (find similar ones online here) and tied off with this gorgeous wine red velvet ribbon.
It added a perfect little pop of holiday cheer.
Probably the most ‘dramatic’ area of our foyer is this garland above the door leading you out of our foyer and into our home. As I mentioned in my Instagram Stories (Christmas Highlights) recently, I used a FRESH CEDAR GARLAND which is held up using Command Hooks (removable wall hooks) and decorated with similar wine red velvet ribbon to keep things coordinated.
I love the impact that this fresh cedar garland has in our foyer.
I wanted to be sure that there was a similar impact from the opposite end, so I duplicated the effect on the other side.
While the entryway garland took some time to put together – and got VERY MESS in the process! – on balance, there is nothing in our foyer that feels overly fussy. I was able to SWAP OUT A FEW THINGS and RE-USE A LOT OF MY EXISTING DECOR to put together most of what you see here. Using things with special meaning and keeping items I truly love made this space come together far more easily than I expected.
Thanks so much for stopping by to take the tour. I’m always pleased to share my latest decorating projects. I hope that these natural holiday foyer decorating vignettes provide you with some decor ideas for your own holiday decorating this year.
I’ll be back soon with more Christmas style ideas!
