Creamy, neutral textures, a fresh farmhouse feel, and a laid back vibe.  And, of course, all things affordable. After all, Christmas is when we tend to spend our hard-earned dollars, so why not save a little now?  In keeping with this idea, I’m popping in today to share this simple fall pinecone bowl decor idea. It’s easy, affordable DIY decor that anyone can create.

While I’ve got more fall vignettes that I can’t wait to share with you, this one was a little gem of a DIY that I know some of you will appreciate.

MATERIALS

For starters, I spent just $1.99 on this one! Yep, that’s right. I already had all the rest of the materials at home.

Materials you will need to create this easy pinecone bowl decor.

To recreate this simple fall pinecone bowl decor at home, you’ll need the following:

Step 1:  Spray Paint Bowl & Pinecones

To create that creamy, neutral farmhouse feel, spray painting your old decor is a great, affordable option.

Start by laying down newspaper in a well-ventilated room (or somewhere outdoors). Place the bowl on one side and your pinecones on the other. Spray paint the bowl using the Rustoleum spray paint in gloss white. Do the same for the pinecones, but with Krylon’s Colonial Ivory.

I chose to spray paint the pinecones an ivory (instead of going with white) because I often find using white on pinecones makes them appear more silvery white and I really wanted a creamier appearance.

Wait overnight before proceeding to the next step. Although the paint might be dry to the touch after 20 minutes, it will not likely be completely dry all the way through.

Step 2:   Seal Bowl Using Mod Podge Spray Sealer

Although not entirely necessary, I like to use the Mod Podge Sealer for the bowl as added protection so that the bowl doesn’t stick to any surface if used too soon (as often happens with me 🙂 ). Waiting overnight for the spray paint to fully dry is a good idea, and spraying on the sealer adds another layer of protection.

This is the spray sealer I use:  Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer.

Step 3:  Fill Your Bowl & Display

Fill your bowl with pinecones. And for pops of colour, nuts or dried berries are a great, affordable option.

Add the bowl to complete a vignette or use it as a centerpiece on a side table, buffet, console, dining room table or kitchen counter. The sky’s the limit!

Those pine cones look so lovely grouped together like that in the bowl. Strange that you mention about the white paint making the pine cones look silverish. I’ve noticed that before and never even thought about trying a different shade of white. It made all the difference. Thanks for the tip. I need to remember that

I’ve experimented with white in the past and was always surprised by how ‘silvery’ the pinecones appeared even after using white. Using cream or beige really does do the trick!

Even I am not a fall lover, I prefer summer, I have to admit that this looks fantastic. I love when I have an idea all the materials are at home and I can make it at once. I did not also know about the white paint and pine cones. As Michelle mention thank you for the tip 🙂

Jelica, this is such “a pretty fix”! I would totally never think of painting that bowl, but it looks very upscale with the paint job. And the pinecones, nuts and berries look so pretty in it. I wish I had more access to pinecones! I love the arrangement. I didn’t know Mod Podge came as a spray sealer either. Going to look for that next time I’m out.
