SIMPLE SPRING DECORATING IDEAS
As regular readers know, I typically decorate with a ‘light hand,’ using SIMPLE SPRING VIGNETTES to layer in seasonal touches.
This year, I added POPS OF YELLOW into our normally neutral aesthetic, starting with this DIY LEMON WREATH on our FRONT DOOR.
Inspired by our lemon wreath, I decided to carry this SUBTLE YELLOW THEME INTO OUR INTERIORS as well.
I LOVE these faux yellow florals from Bouclair (I spotted them while perusing the ‘garden’ section and couldn’t pass them up). Although lovely on their own, I decided to mix in some SAGE GREEN LEAVES I already had in my decor stash for a bit of added interest.
The rest of the COFFEE TABLE is styled with a large bamboo bowl (thrifted) and books I’ve had for a while – some new, some thrifted. I added small accessories on each book stack, including a CONCRETE TEALIGHT HOLDER (you can find similar ones here and here), a travel-size CHESS SET (similar ones can be found here and here), a SOAPSTONE DISH that my husband’s had for years, and a BOX OF MATCHES I decorated with PRETTY CRAFT PAPER (you can check out the quick tutorial on how I did that on Instagram here).
While refreshing our coffee table, I thought about our TV (as one does 😏) and began thinking about how I might decorate that area. It’s always a challenge decorating around a flat screen TV, wouldn’t you agree? While I have a few ideas, I decided to begin by adding some artwork on either side.
On the LEFT SIDE are two original pieces of ENCAUSTIC art (hardened hot wax) that I’ve had for a number of years.
I purchased them at an art gallery featuring this talented artist. They are textured and quite mesmerizing to look at in person and up close.
Along the RIGHT SIDE are two THRIFTED PIECES I purchased at VALUE VILLAGE! Equally lovely. Both are reproductions of originals distributed by the landscape artist himself (James Keirstead).
After reading about the artist online (born in 1932 and still painting!), I was surprised to see his works at Value Village. Nevertheless, I’m happy to have stumbled upon them as I did!
WHENEVER I THINK OF ‘SPRING,’ I always think of SPRING FLOWERS. But as someone who ENJOYS THE UNEXPECTED in decor, I decided to DIY these MOSS BOWL FILLERS for an added dose of personality.
I LOVE how EASY these were to make and how elegant they look in our space.
Just behind our living area is our DINING ROOM which I’ve decorated with a SIMPLE VASE of FAUX FORSYTHIA BRANCHES.
I purchased these YEARS AGO at Pier 1 (anyone else miss that place?). I don’t have the exact product link for them, BUT I found SIMILAR FORSYTHIA BRANCHES HERE and HERE.
On our KITCHEN ISLAND, I’ve created this simple vignette of FAUX FLORALS and a THRIFTED BOWL with fresh fruit.
The TALL FLORALS (from Michaels) were surprisingly inexpensive (under $2 per stem), while the SHORT FLORALS were a mix of greens and YELLOW POPPIES LEFT OVER from my lemon wreath diy project.
The vases themselves are GLASS CYLINDERS (from the Dollar Store) that I covered with FAUX LEATHER SLEEVES that I DIY’ed myself.
I love that I can add or remove the sleeves, depending on the look I am going for. They were EASY TO MAKE and the stitching detail adds a subtle, handmade touch.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the RECENT ADDITION of this handmade embroidered piece (‘Young Girl Reading’ circa 1776) behind our living room area.
This was MADE BY MY MOTHER who passed away several years ago. As I was refreshing my space, I realized that it would be just perfect in this spot, overlooking our great room. One of many stunning pieces she has made over the years.
