Soft & Subtle Fall Foyer Decorating

I’ve been busier than usual these past few weeks, and it seems that life just never slows down. Just when you think you can relax for a moment, something pops up to pull you in a new direction. Fall is definitely a season where schedules fill up fast and, before you know it, the holidays are here! But I am getting WAY ahead of myself. For now, I’m just happy settling into fall and to share with you some no-fuss, Soft & Subtle Foyer Decorating Ideas.

SOFT & SUBTLE FALL FOYER DECORATING

As regular readers of the blog will know, MY APPROACH TO SEASONAL DECORATING is to KEEP THINGS SIMPLE: swap out foliage, add a few accents (like textiles or candles), and keep it classy 🙂  While results have varied – I still shudder thinking about my old glittery-glam-stool-covered-in-shag purchase that I proudly styled with a ‘cute’ owl pillow – it’s nice to know that those days are gone. I am ‘back to my roots’ so to speak, with a more relaxed style that is less complicated and much, MUCH, more ‘me.’

For our foyer this year, I’ve included key staples – THROWS, FOLIAGE, and ACCENTS in MUTED TONES OF BROWN, BURGUNDY, and hints of COPPER – that are repeated elsewhere in our home, which keep things cohesive and relaxed.

The first thing someone sees when opening our front door (apart from this DIY Leafy Fall Wreath), is our foyer seating nook. Exercising restraint in decorating this space was key to keeping this TIGHT SPACE FEELING LESS BUSY, YET STYLISH, TOO.

Here I added a LEAFY THROW BLANKET as a subtle nod to the changing season outdoors.

I’ve had the throw for several years so it’s long been discontinued. But I found similar, MUTED BOTANICAL-THEMED THROWS at varying price points that you may wish to explore HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

The SPINDLE BACK BENCH was a Wayfair find – tricky to put together, fyi, and with mixed reviews online, but it works very well for us  – and the GALLERY WALL includes prints I framed a couple of seasons back. You can find them HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE

Rather than removing this light bouquet of dried goldenrod I hung on a (removable) command hook this summer, I simply tied a COPPER BROWN RIBBON to add a moody touch.

Across from our foyer bench is an oversized mirror and buffet table mostly used for storage and I wanted it decorated to reflect the season as well. Because I have yet to find the right palette and accessories for it – A CONSTANT STRUGGLE – I often find THIS SURFACE DIFFICULT TO DECORATE. But after putting together one vignette for it, all the rest seemed to fall into place rather quickly, much to my surprise.

Along the right side is this VINTAGE-INSPIRED VIGNETTE using objects I pulled together from other parts of our home.

This little ceramic storage container was a THRIFT FIND from Value Village. It’s the perfect place to hide keys.

These STUNNING BURGUNDY FLORALS (which come in a wide range of colours) were the perfect hit of colour here.  The foliage is so elegant and lifelike, drooping naturally, with lots of movement. Although the base stems are smooth and ‘shiny’ – not realistic at all – they are tucked away in this vase which keeps them hidden from view.

(The last time I checked the burgundy florals were SOLD OUT in Canada, but are STILL AVAILABLE on the US and UK Amazon sites).

This lovely piece is a print of original artwork by Canadian artist Susan Krieg, called “Benediction” (occasionally you can find reproductions of it on Etsy and eBay).  I purchased this as a university student many, MANY, years ago. It has moved with me from apartment to apartment, city to city, and eventually made its way to our current home, where it is now part of my ‘vintage’ collection – lol!

Finally, along the other side of our buffet is this WARM-TONED BOOKSTACK (The Complete Book of Nature Crafts and Call It Home by Amber Lewis), a THRIFTED BOWL for keys and other odds and ends, and a TABLE LAMP.

Simple, fall decorating with warm tones of brown and burgundy.

(FUN FACT: The LAMP is really just a HACK consisting of a small, wireless lamp tucked away inside this stoneware vase and an old (and stained) IKEA lampshade placed on top. You can check out how I put it all together in my Instagram Stories here.)

I love the deep hues of this vignette, making it a perfect complement to the other warm, earthy tones used in this space.

There is nothing in this space that feels overly ‘themed’ or fussy. And the best part is that everything except the foliage came from other areas of our home. Using things with special meaning and items I truly love made this space come together quite easily.

Thanks for stopping by today and taking the tour. I think no matter what the season, REUSING ITEMS YOU ALREADY OWN will keep things FEELING FRESH AND NEW. Use what you truly love and it will always come together!

I’ll be back soon with more fall decor and craft ideas!
