Hi Friends! Happy 2019! How did you spend your holidays this year? I visited friends and family and had a very restful season for which I am exceptionally grateful 🙂 As I move on into a new year, I love to reflect – not only for what lies ahead, but what I’ve experienced during the year that was. And part of that reflection includes looking back on the previous year of this blog. So I’m happy to be able to take a moment to recap the top 10 craft & decor posts of 2018 from A Pretty Fix.
10. Foaming Hand Soap Using Essential Oils
The tenth most popular DIY on this list is this foaming hand soap using essential oils. It was a hit with readers and even some of my friends. I think it’s because of the recent popularity in using essential oils at home – and healthier alternatives at home in general – that this DIY turned out to be such a stand-out.
9. Foraged Fall Wreath DIY Video Tutorial
Okay, so this one has got to be one of my favourite DIYs from last year. I had been experimenting quite a bit with assymetrical wreaths at the time and decided to create a video tutorial for my fall wreath. I gathered up some gorgeous materials and ended up using faux supplies to create this foraged look. While most of my wreaths get pulled apart after the season is over, I don’t have the heart to pull this one apart just yet! I may even use it again next fall 🙂
8. No-Knit Gift Guide for the Modern Yarn Crafter
As someone who is loving yarn craft options for the modern creative, I really wanted to create a curated collection of beginner kits as well as basic supplies that the modern yarn crafter would love. It’s now become my own go-to post when I’m looking for supplies or even just some design inspiration.
7. Weaving Techniques: Rya Loops Video Tutorial
One of my most detailed video tutorials to date, this rya loops DIY goes through the step by step process of how to create a cluster of little rya loops that also create a lovely circular shape as well. It got a lot of traction on YouTube and continues to be one of the most popular tutorials on My Channel.
6. How To Attach a Driftwood Hanger to A Weaving
One of the things that I vowed to do last year was to start experimenting a bit more with a variety of dowels and hangers on my wall weavings. This was definitely one my favourite little pieces and I think the driftwood matches the earthy tones in this weaving quite nicely.
5. Wall Weaving Basics
This weaving basics tutorial was actually a guest post I shared on the fabulous Sustain My Craft Habit blog. It turned out to be a favourite among readers there as well and I’m so glad! I love weaving and plan to add more tutorials on the blog and my YouTube channel, so stay tuned!
4. 7 Basic Embroidery Stitches For Beginners
Sometimes, the easiest way to get back into an old crafting favourite is to practice the basics. That’s why I decided to share some basic embroidery stitches that I had been practicing at home. It’s a great sampler to have on hand when you need to find just the right stitch for just the right shape that you’re creating. I’ll try and remember to share some more embroidery with everyone again this year.
3. Modern, Minimal DIY Wreath
I am obsessed with minimal wreaths and loved this one in particular. There is something so spectacular about a lush wreath in a monochromatic scheme that always draws me in. I’m so glad that it was a favourite with all of you lovely readers, too.
2. Embroidery Hoop Art Using Tulle
This one is definitely in my top favourites from last year. I loved experimenting with tulle, and although I had some ideas to use it some more, I still need to get going on my next tulle project! Hopefully, I’ll do something with it real soon (and share it with all of you, of course).
1. How To Re-Use Plugin Air Fresheners Using Essential Oils
Probably the biggest surprise for me was to see that this reusable plugin DIY came out at the top of the list. It was something I wanted to do at home and decided to share on the blog at the last minute. But perhaps it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that it did make it to the top of the list. Plugins are a common household item and definitely an essential one for those of us who love our homes smelling fresh, clean and natural.
Well, it’s been fun looking back on the top 10 craft and decor posts of 2018 – can’t wait to see what comes next! I hope you’ll join me for the ride 🙂
Happy 2019!
