11 AFFORDABLE SPRING DECOR IDEAS

1.  Grocery Store Flowers

How to make leather wrapped vases; simple tutorial for beginners.

If I were a betting woman, I’d say that nearly everyone reading this has gone to the grocery store to pick up a bouquet of flowers or a potted plant.

It’s easy and convenient and is something I do at least once or twice a year (I really should do it more!).

You don’t need me to tell you how or where to style them. BUT, if you want to try something new this year, buy a COUPLE OF BOUQUETS YOU CAN MIX AND MATCH to create a few totally unique floral arrangements.

2.  Faux Floral Displays

Tips for finding and styling faux flowers.

If you already have faux flowers at home, dust them off and display them – again. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to revitalize a space without spending more money.

However, if you’ve never invested in faux florals, I suggest checking out my Round-Up of Faux Florals That Look Real, including some styling tips to get the most out of your synthetic blooms. It’s hard to find good quality faux florals so this is a great post to get you started.

3.  Swap Out Pillow Covers & Throw Blankets

Fuss-free, neutral spring updates you can do at home.

If you like to layer in textiles in a space, you may have several weights and colours at your disposal. If so, I suggest SWAPPING OUT HEAVIER TEXTILES FOR LIGHTWEIGHT LINENS & WOVEN MATERIALS. These have a lighter, airier quality that are more in keeping with a fresh, ‘spring’ feeling at home.

I’ve previously discussed SEASONAL TRANSITIONS (from Christmas to winter decorating, and from summer to fall) where you can get more tips on how to make your decor work for you season to season.

However, if you prefer to have ALL those creature comforts at your disposal, lay out the lightweight items – on the back of a sofa, on a sofa arm, or on the seat – while putting the heavier textiles in a basket. Either way, you can play around with your textiles to see what works for you this season.

4.  Make a Spring Wreath

Pretty Vintage Floral Wreath DIY

This would not be a proper round-up on A Pretty Fix without mentioning diy wreaths!

I have done SEVERAL since starting this blog over 9 years ago (has it been THAT long?) and never tire of making them. It’s such a pretty way to brighten up a front door, foyer, living room, bathroom, bedroom, or any space that needs a little hit of colour, texture, and artistry.

If you’ve NEVER MADE ONE BEFORE or need some CREATIVE INSPIRATION, check out these 5 SPRING WREATH DIYs (including the one pictured above). The list includes a mix of beginner-friendly, dollar-store options, and all-out creative diy wreaths to try this season.

5.  Edible Decor: Fruit & Candy Displays

Spring vignette in the kitchen: faux florals and bowl of fresh fruit.

While you’re picking up that bouquet of flowers at the grocery store, make sure to purchase some candy and fruit to display as well.

This is such a great way to add some life or a pop of colour with items you typically buy each week. Pull out a fruit bowl and some candy bowls and display them strategically in your kitchen, on the dining table, or on your coffee table – and don’t forget to refill the next week!

You’ll be surprised at just how fun these small pops of edible decor can have in a space. It’s one of the most practical and affordable spring decor ideas on this list!

6.  Embroidery Hoop Floral Art (that doesn’t require embroidery)

Craft a unique hoop art using tulle and faux flowers | DIY | home crafts | home decor

If you want to get a little crafty without too much fuss, this DIY is the PERFECT little way to add a floral flourish to your space.

After seeing a number of beautiful online floral embroidery pieces using tulle as the foundation, I wanted to make something similar that required a whole lot less skill.

This was my take on all those embroidered tulle creations. And best of all? It did not require a single piece of embroidery floss to put it together!

7.  Moss-Covered Bowl Fillers

DIY moss-covered bowl fillers. Living room views.

I made these moss covered bowl fillers with a few simple supplies and some hot glue. I LOVED how they turned out.

Put them in a sleek, modern bowl for a contemporary feel or add them to an intricately designed vessel for a casual, rustic aesthetic.

It’s a great way to add a natural, outdoor touch that will take you through the seasons.

8.  Floral Paper Matchbox Cover

Coffee table decor.

So I have a LOT of matchboxes, all generic and utilitarian. They are cost-effective and useful, but – as you may have guessed – not very decorative.

An easy way to dress them up for spring – or any season for that matter – is to glue paper with pretty patterns, colours, or floral designs on them. See how quick and easy it is in this YouTube shorts video featuring spring crafts you can do with a hot glue gun.

Display one large one in a spring coffee table vignette or place several in a glass container or bowl for a bit of pretty, practical style.

9.  Small Vintage Ceramics

Vintage creamer displayed on a stack of books. Easy spring style details.

I am a sucker for small, vintage ceramics like mini vases, creamers, and teacups. So many of them come with INTERESTING PATTERNS AND DESIGNS that can easily dress up year-round displays or a spring vignette.

Place one in a monochromatic display and let the pattern shine, or drop a sprig of berries or florals (real, faux or dried) for a sweet seasonal touch.

Small vintage ceramics can also be utilitarian like this LIDDED ONE I use in our foyer as A KEY HOLDER, year-round.

10.  Vintage Art Featuring Outdoor Motifs

Faking a 'potted' plant look using inexpensive materials from home.

Every time I go to the thrift store, I ALWAYS SCOPE OUT THE ART SECTION. You never know when you’ll find a real treasure.

But if you don’t have much luck at the thrift store, there are a plethora of affordable options on Etsy. The vintage inspired prints above, for example, were Etsy purchases (you can find them HEREHEREHERE, and HERE).

Regardless of where you shop for vintage art, have fun with how you display each piece. Display one on its own, in a grouping, or leaning against a mantel. Get creative, take some risks, and have fun with your spring vintage art.

11.  Accent Candles

Kitchen island spring style ideas using candles and greenery.

The versatility of candles is really quite amazing. Whether you decide to pull one out to add a delicious smell in your home or use one or two in a display, candles are a lovely way to freshen up a home, especially in the spring.

I like the versatility of neutral coloured candles, but I also love seeing colourful and quirky ones out on full display any time of year.
