Transitioning from Christmas to Winter Decor

Jan. 11, 2021

Here are some simple ways I’m transitioning from Christmas to winter decor using what I already own. It’s easy, casual and budget-friendly, too 🙂

Simple ways to transition from Christmas to winter decor.

TRANSITIONING FROM CHRISTMAS TO WINTER DECOR

If you’re like me, once the Christmas decorations are packed away, you love the simple tranquility this brings to your home. But with this lightness also comes a lingering craving for cozy comfort, too. After all, the weather outside is frightful!

So how do you transition from Christmas to Winter Decor without losing that feeling of cozyness?

For me, the answer is simple: remove all traces of Christmas, but keep all the rest.

Namely, I like to 1. Theme-down 2. Keep My Greens and 3. Layer up

1. Theme-Down

To ‘theme-down’ – namely, removing every trace of ‘Christmas’ – will be different for everyone.

Whether your home is full of nutcrackers, reindeer, santas, Christmas signs and prints, stockings, or ornaments, removing these is, of course, the first step.

2. Keep Your Greens (i.e. Natural Elements)

Sounds a lot like ‘eat your greens’ but that’s not what I mean!

(Though, be sure to eat your greens 😉 )

It’s no secret that I LOVE my greenery. Whatever the season, I love bringing the outdoors in with mostly faux greenery – a cat-proof necessity – even if it’s just the feeling of the outdoors inside.

Here are all the greens that I’m keeping up right now:

  • mini trees
  • green wreaths
  • winter greens (e.g., pine, spruce, fir)

I also happen to have LOADS of pinecones, so I decided to sprinkle in a few here and there to keep things interesting.

So while not much has changed from my Home Christmas Tour, it’s the simplest way to maintain a ‘winter’ theme at home without spending a dime:

Here’s a closer look at my winter greens and natural elements peppered throughout my space.

3. Layer Up!

While I really dislike cold weather, I have come to appreciate the cozyness that comes from surrounding myself with lots of textures like pillows, throw blankets and faux fur rugs.

Whether you swap things out season to season or simply keep what you already have, these are subtle ways that you can keep a feeling of comfort in your home all winter long.
