Styling artwork at home can sometimes be challenging, especially if you want to get creative or add personality. In today’s post, I’m sharing 7 beautiful artwork display ideas (along with my 30% off discount code to purchase prints for your home) that I hope will give you some ideas to implement in your own home, whatever your personal style or tastes may be.
7 BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK DISPLAY IDEAS
I’ve been sharing how to display art on your walls at home since the start of this blog and it never gets old for me. Whether it’s to add impact and drama with a gallery wall or create a subdued and calming vibe in a bedroom, art has the ability to change the look and feel of a space.
In today’s list of ideas – that come directly from my home – I want to show you some of my favourite ways to add warmth and beauty with artwork. Whether you like vintage prints, modern or DIY art, I think this list will spark inspiration and joy as you think of new ways to accessorize your spaces at home.
Here is my list of 7 beautiful artwork display ideas.
1. Stacked
Stacking a pair as I did here in our living room recently, is a great way to create interest in a small area that does not require much to fill it.
This particular pair came from The Canvas Hut, a new-to-me online shop that ships internationally.
I received mine at 30% off – and you can too – by using my discount code JELICA30 on any prints sitewide, valid until the end of April (2022). They have everything from nature, people, animals, abstract and minimalist pieces, too.
Pro Tip: Prior to hanging mine, I used scrap paper to get a sense of how the stacked look might work here.
Then, voila! They were ready to be hung.
I simply love how this pair created impact, yet integrated so beautifully in our living room.
(SOURCES (includes some affiliate links): Figure (Select Picture C, Size 40cm X 50cm) using this frame (without the mat) // Abstract (Select Picture E, Size 21xm X 30cm A4) using this frame (and this A4 size mat))
2. Solo
Probably the most obvious, but often under-utilized, is when one piece is hung on its own. This is a really practical way of displaying artwork in smaller spaces.
I often do this where there isn’t a lot of wall space, as I did here in our entryway, next to our front door.
Or here in our guest bedroom just above a chest of drawers.
When adding a single piece, keep in mind that it needs to feel like it’s part of a larger vignette, part of a display, or simply fills a slimmer wall.
3. Trio (aka the ‘Small Cluster’)
Not quite a gallery wall, a trio or ‘small cluster’ of artwork is a great way to display ‘like’ items or smaller pieces.
I fell in love with these encaustic (hot wax) art pieces (all by the same artist). They were the first art pieces I ever owned. But displaying them was a bit challenging because of their small size. So, I simply displayed them together as a cluster and they’ve been adorning that wall ever since.
4. Gallery Wall
A gallery wall is an impactful way to hang a collection of art and prints, and with good reason.
Typically, it takes up a large area of wall space and has an immediate impact on the senses. Whether you are creating an eclectic or modern/minimalist gallery, it’s bound to create beauty and warmth in any room.
Making one can also be incredibly intimidating! I have an entire post dedicated to creating the perfect modern, minimalist gallery wall for beginners, below (including where I purchased these pieces), that walks you through the process.
5. Picture Ledge Gallery
This has become one of my new favourite approaches to creating a gallery wall.
When I updated our guest bedroom a couple of years ago, I knew that I wanted to create a picture ledge gallery that would evoke a calm and serene vibe in here.
It’s also the perfect solution for those who want to update a space. Just swap out your prints – all or just one or two – and you’ll get a completely different look that changes with the seasons, if that’s your thing.
So if you’ve been wanting to try your hand at gallery walls, this is a great place to start.
6. Leaning/Layered
I love the unexpected nature of leaning and layering art against a wall or mirror. Like any accessory you may have at home, artwork can be incorporated into a table scape, for example, in much the same way.
When I was updating our dining room space, I knew that I wanted to create contrast with this ornate mirror and rustic dining room set with something modern and minimal. By incorporating these black and white pieces – along with other black and white accessories and a rug – I was able to create interest with art without much fuss.
7. DIY Shelf Display
I’ve been playing around with this DIY shelf display in our guest bathroom by mixing in a wall hanging – this mini DIY macrame vine/leaf piece – with simple DIY art.
While not much different from the leaning/layered idea, the key change is in using both the leaning look as well as a wall hanging in the same display.
You could create something truly spectacular on a large scale using this same concept. Perhaps a project for another time 🙂
I really hope you got some inspiration with these 7 beautiful artwork display ideas from my home. They are not that difficult to implement and are a great way to personalize your home.
Happy decorating ❤️

March 30, 2022 at 2:12 pmHey, thanks Mary! Yes, the gallery wall can feel so intimidating. It takes more preparation, for sure – I think it’s all the measuring you end up doing and also that feeling that it must be “perfect.” I’m sure you’ll do a great job with it 🙂
