Tis the season (or at least it’s fast-approaching!) and I’m so excited to see our home transformed by Christmas decorations. If you’re in a similar frame of mind, then you’ve come to the right place ’cause I’ve got some oh-so pretty DIY Christmas Wreaths that’ll take just 5 minutes to make. Now that’s my kind of crafting 🙂
As my Christmas style has evolved, I’ve discovered that I have most of what I need to decorate our Great Room which includes our living room as well as our dining room & kitchen.
But as a crafter, I can always fit in a few DIY’s 🙂 especially when it comes to adding a seasonal touch in some of our more neglected spaces.
So this year I decided to whip up a few easy wreaths to fill the void. Quite honestly, I love these little creations so much that I might make a few more before the season is through!
Before I get carried away, let me walk you through how to whip up these oh-so-pretty DIY Christmas wreaths 😉

DIY Christmas Wreaths: THE SUPPLIES
- Metal wreath rings (I used 2 x inch for this tutorial; I’ll also show you how my X inch wreaths turned out)
- Greenery of your choice – real and faux both work for this tutorial
- Green paddle wire (hot glue can also work for this tutorial)
- Wire cutters
- Ribbon (I used satin because of its loose, drapey appearance, but any will do)
- Scissors
- Command hooks for hanging your wreaths
DIY Christmas Wreaths: THE STEPS
STEP 1: Shape Your Greenery
If using faux greenery, shape it to the wreath ring form. This will make it easier to attach.
Tip: Remove bulk, if needed, by pulling off any small green pieces. I always keep these bits as they may be useful for other projects.
STEP 2: Attach Greenery To Wire Ring
Begin wrapping the paddle wire around the greenery stems and wire, starting in the middle.
Work your way around one side.
Try not to crush the greenery, focusing primarily on wrapping the stem to the ring.
Clip off the wire from the paddle.
Wrap the wire tip around the ring.
Repeat on the opposite side.
Tip: As much as possible, don’t clip off the wire from the paddle as you wrap it around the wreath form. Not only is it easier to attach the greenery to the ring, but it creates a much stronger attachment.
Check out my YouTube tutorial on How To Make a Fresh Wreath using paddle wire.
STEP 3: Add a Ribbon
This is my favourite part!
Taking your ribbon, tie a knot around the middle.
Then create loops as you would if you’re tying your shoelaces. Nothing fancy, but the effect is lovely.
Don’t forget to cut the ends on an angle. It’s a small detail, but creates a lovely effect.
Tip: If your ribbon is too wide, just take a pair of scissors, as I did, and cut carefully along the middle. If you’re using a satin ribbon, remember that it will fray a bit, so cut any threads off.
Of course, once you make one, you just can’t stop there – trust me!
STEP 4: Hang & Enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I did creating it. I did not expect to love this little project as much as I did. (By the time of this writing, I’ve create four so far…and counting 😉 )
Happy crafting 🙂
