STEPS
Step 1: Fill Sachets
Fill each sachet with your ingredients.

Tip: Remember to snap each cinnamon stick in half. Use your nut cracker to crack the nutmeg in half. If you have trouble snapping your cinnamon sticks in half, use the nutcracker. This will likely break the cinnamon into several pieces, but that’s okay. The goal is to release the flavour.
Step 2: Tie Sachet Bags Closed
Tie the sachet bags to keep all your ingredients in each bag.

If there is no draw string, you can use cooking twine for this purpose.
How To Use Your DIY Mulling Spice Sachets
For Hot Apple Cider
- Add 1 sachet to 1-2 Litres (or quarts) of cider – just drop it in whole

- Simmer on low for 15-30 minutes (don’t boil)
- Remove the sachet and serve warm

It’s just as easy to use these sachets in other ways, too. Here are a couple of other options:
For Mulled Wine
- Combine 1 bottle of red wine + 1/4 cup honey or sugar + 1 sachet
- Simmer on low for 20 minutes (don’t boil)
- Optional: add orange slices or brandy
As Stovetop Potpourri
- Add 1 sachet to a pot of water and simmer on stove. Top up water as needed – makes the whole house smell like fall 🙂
***NOTE: You can typically use the same sachet bag 1-2 times. It is noticeably milder the second time.
How To Store Mulled Cider or Wine
Store leftovers in a closed container (like a large mason jar) in the fridge for 2-3 days.
How To Gift DIY Mulling Spice Sachets
Package a few sachets in a small box or gift bag with a tea towel or homemade coasters (like these woven or macrame ones), and you have the perfect hostess gift.
Wrapping Up

I hope these simple DIY Mulling Spice Sachets spark a bit of warmth and creativity into your fall days. Sometimes, it’s those small touches – the scent of spices or a cozy cup of cider – that turn ordinary moments into something special. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet afternoon alone or sharing a moment with friends or family, let these little details bring a bit of warmth to the season.
