Although our living room gets most of my the attention when I decorate, I never miss an opportunity to add a few touches elsewhere in our Great Room. After all, living in an open-concept space means that I’m constantly casting an eye over each of the ‘zones’ in our space, and that includes the dining nook. So today, I’m sharing some fall touches in the dining nook that I’ve added this season.

FALL TOUCHES IN THE DINING NOOK
Although I LOVE our open-concept home, it does pose some challenges when it comes to decorating. I not only have to consider decor for the living room, but also our kitchen as well as our dining nook.
Throughout the Simply Fall Series, I’ve shown you two of the three main zones in our Great Room:
The Living Room…
…as well as the Kitchen.
Taken separately, they each feel distinct and able to stand on their own. Taken together, however, these areas have common themes – such as colour and texture – that help pull them together.

Using warm greens, soft rusts and a few hits of black and white for a bit of drama, I decided to go for a cozy, autumn vibe throughout the space. And while this feeling of warmth is found throughout the Great Room, the dining room feels just a bit moodier than the rest.
Setting the tone is this lovely charcoal grey pottery vase filled with these lush and wild faux florals.
I also added a touch of cozy texture with this dark plaid throw blanket, which adds a great hit of warmth.
While I kept things simple on the dining table, I decided to add more weight on the buffet along the back in order to ground that area.
In keeping with the black and white theme, I added a simple striped basket, a stack of books with a fall-scented candle on top, and a mid-century modern task lamp.
It was important for me to add touches of fall in the dining nook, but without adding too much bulk. I think I achieved that.
It’s always a challenge decorating each zone in our Great Room, but I love the process of figuring out how to tie everything together. It’s fun playing around with colour and texture while keeping things simply decorated. I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our dining nook decorated for fall.
Happy decorating 🙂

September 30, 2019 at 4:41 pmJelica, I really love the resting mirror on the buffet table instead of hanging it. I do this with large pictures on my fireplace mantle and have always loved the look! And I really like the blanket on the back of the chair. I’ve never thought of this before but was thinking that it too would be an easy way to change a “look” in a room. Thanks for the idea!

October 20, 2019 at 5:06 pmHey Erin, It’s one of my favourite ways to ‘hang’ a mirror. It gives off a casual vibe and, in this case, we made only 1 hole in the wall and attached the mirror to it using a hanging wire. This particular mirror is oversized and quite substantial, so we wanted to make sure it didn’t tip over! I have, however, another mirror in our entryway that I having leaning against the wall without an anchor and it’s always stayed in place!
