🌟 SUPPLIES NEEDED 🌟

Supplies needed to make macrame candy cane ornaments.

Macrame Cord (3mm): I used this 3-ply to create a swirled look, but any 3mm cord will work well.

Red Velvet Ribbon (approx. 1cm): I used a red velvet ribbon purchased locally. You can find similar ones online.

Craft Wire (mine is a 22 gauge, but any flexible craft wire will work for this project)

Wire Cutters

Scissors

Tapestry Needle (large-eye needle with blunt end)

Hot Glue Gun (not pictured)

HOW TO MAKE A MACRAME CANDY CANE ORNAMENT

Step 1: Cut Cords & Wire

Cut 5 macrame cords of equal length (mine were approximately 7 inches long).

Cut 5 equal lengths of macrame cord.

Next, cut 1 length of craft wire about 2 inches shorter than your cords (mine was approximately 5 inches long).

Step 3: Secure End of Cord

Thread a tapestry needle.

Thread tapestry needle.

To prevent the cord from unraveling, you will secure the end by inserting it into the bundle itself.

Feed needle into interior.

Begin by guiding the tip of the needle down the interior of the bundle in behind the wrapped cords.

Allow the tip to come out at least an inch or more down the length of the bundle.

Guide needle into the bundle, just behind the wrapped cords.

While holding the bundle in one hand, push the needle out with the other.

In summary: To prevent the cord from unraveling, insert the end into the interior of the bundle. For reference, see the diagram below.

NOTE: The more malleable the craft wire is, the easier it is to reshape as you wish. I used a 22 gauge craft wire which is very flexible and can be shaped and reshaped often.

Next, add twine or a simple ornament hook to the top of your macrame candy cane.
