Hello All! It’s great to be back blogging again just in time for fall. And you know what that means – fall decorating and crafting (insert ear-to-ear grin). Today, I’m excited to be sharing our fall foyer with you. It’s a little bit rustic and a little bit modern and I couldn’t be happier with the results. This year, I’ve been inspired by trends in modern prairie decor with its focus on ‘wild west’ themes that combine contemporary palettes with cabin + animal motifs. Hope you find something in it to inspire you as you get ready for fall.
Welcome!
For those of you who have been following the blog for a while now, you may remember that last year’s fall foyer seating area was simple and minimal. This year, however, I wanted to add some drama with contrasting colours – in this case, black, cream, grey and gold.
I also wanted more texture and depth. Layering is the gold standard when it comes to adding these elements to a space. But while some stylists love to load on the layers, I must admit that I am a minimalist at heart, often removing more than I add. If there is any style statement I subscribe to, it has to be Coco Chanel’s famous quote: “before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” Okay, so while I am no fashionista, this definitely describes my approach to decorating.
In order to add depth without overloading the space, therefore, I added – at minimum – one ‘layer’ per surface. In this case, a throw on one chair, a pillow on the other, and then lanterns and logs on the rug beneath. I love how it all came together!
Directly across from the main seating area is our sideboard, which also got a dose of prairie love.
And, finally, the last spot that received a little prairie love is just off the doorway. Here, I created this boho rustic birch branch vignette. It’s a great spot to sit and put on your shoes or boots.
The seat itself is woven with a Navajo inspired print. I absolutely adore it.
Well I hope you enjoyed this fall foyer tour and that there were some tidbits of inspiration to take with you as you get ready for fall. I know I can’t wait to finish off the rest of the house 🙂
Happy decorating 🙂

October 13, 2016 at 9:56 amJelica, I really love this foyer. The pops of yellow, all that wonderful texture. It looks fantastic. Like a fun place you want to be at. I also have incorporated a bit of yellow in my living room. I find that it is a wonderful color for fall since it reminds us of the leaves.

March 17, 2018 at 5:45 pmI purchased these ages ago at a furniture store called ‘Structube.’ They no longer carry them. I guess I scooped them up at just the right time 🙂

March 24, 2021 at 2:32 pmHi Christina: Thank you! I purchased this throw blanket at Home Sense here in Canada. I don’t know the brand, unfortunately 🙁 I purchase a lot of my decor and accessories from my local Home Sense (much like Home Goods in the USA). It always has a variety of throw blankets to choose from 🙂
