Each year, I open up our home and take you on a tour of our main living areas decorated for the holidays.
While some things stay the same, I do like to change things up a bit to keep things interesting for us and to provide you with some decorating ideas for your own homes, too.
THIS YEAR, I used a lot of NATURAL ACCENTS like pinecones and greenery – some fresh but mostly faux – within an ELEGANT AND MOODY COLOUR SCHEME filled with muted reds, browns, and a bit of copper and gold.
I’ve also RE-PURPOSED EXISTING DECOR from last year’s holiday home tour. Keeping things fresh is fun, but often all you need is to find creative ways to decorate with what you already have.
A lot of my existing decor was purchased locally, but where I can, I WILL LINK UP PRODUCTS I’ve purchased online or show you something similar. And, of course, I’ll include any TUTORIAL LINKS that may be of interest to the crafters out there!
ALRIGHTY FOLKS, WELCOME TO OUR HOME!
NATURAL CLASSIC CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR
Our Foyer
Upon opening our front door, you enter directly into our foyer. As I shared in a recent Christmas foyer tour (see the FULL TOUR here), the first thing you encounter is this SEATING NOOK.
Draped over this lovely SPINDLE BACK BENCH is a TARTAN-STYLE RED THROW BLANKET (similar ones can be found HERE and HERE), which gives a nod to the season without going over-the-top.
Hung along the wall next to the bench is a TEARDROP SWAG (purchased ages ago) that I tied off with this GORGEOUS BROWN VELVET RIBBON.
Directly across from the seating nook is a buffet table we use to store odds and ends. I did not do much in the way of decor except to SWAP OUT FALL FOLIAGE for this SINGLE STEM PINE (looking a bit ‘smooshed’ but it does the job!).
On the opposite end of the buffet table, I added some FAUX, MOSS-COVERED PINECONES to coordinate with the other green accents in this space.
I could not find anything resembling these pinecones online, but found THESE NATURAL OPTIONS HERE.
Just off to the side nearest our front door is a DIY EUCALYPTUS WREATH tied off with this GORGEOUS RED VELVET RIBBON.
Before exiting the foyer – and by far the MOST STUNNING PART OF THIS SPACE – is this FRESH CEDAR GARLAND hung along the doorframe tied off with red velvet ribbon. I love the natural drape and fresh evergreen smell!
I opted to do the same from the other side of the doorway.
Our Living Room
Once you pass through the foyer, you enter our Great Room where the ‘LIVING ROOM’ portion is front and center.
Here, I leaned into a NATURAL LOOK with OODLES OF GREENERY and fun details that add a bit of that HOLIDAY SPARKLE.
For our COFFEE TABLE, I always like to group items in a grid pattern (a design approach I shared in this Coffee Table Styling post) and always with ONE CENTRAL FEATURE. This year, the feature item is this FESTIVE FAUX GREENERY ARRANGEMENT. It is comprised of faux clippings from past craft projects that include FAUX CEDAR (similar to these), MAGNOLIA LEAVES (similar to these), red berries (like these), and two other types of greenery.
The arrangement is flanked by sparkly accents that include a bowl filled with candy, a pair of OVERSIZED HARMONY BELLS and TAPER CANDLES & HOLDERS with VINTAGE CHARM.
Of course, the piece de resistance is this PRE-LIT, 9-FOOT CHRISTMAS TREE! We purchased it at Home Depot several years ago – at a deep discount – during boxing week, so I would definitely be on the look-out there for similar ones at varying heights.
In keeping with a ‘natural classic’ aesthetic, I used a MIX OF BOTH RED & EARTH-TONED ACCENTS & ORNAMENTS.
I re-used several accents from last year, including THIS BROWN VELVET RIBBON these BATTERY-OPERATED CLIP-ON CANDLES and some DOGWOOD CLIPPINGS I collected last year (also available on Etsy) to add some architecture to the tree.
New this year are these DIY MACRAME CANDY CANE ORNAMENTS which I hung throughout the tree, as well as these RED BERRY STEMS (find similar ones HERE).
To add a bit more FLUFF to the tree, I decided to incorporate PINE PICKS which I left to hang out a bit along the edges of the tree (alongside the DOGWOOD CLIPPINGS below).
As I did in last year’s holiday home tour, I included A TRIO OF WREATHS hung next to our tree. These were ALL GROCERY STORE FINDS purchased several years ago – and they are holding up incredibly well.
I’ve used them in various scenarios, including this high impact GALLERY-STYLE WREATH WALL a few years back. My only addition to each wreath is THIS BROWN VELVET RIBBON.
Over by our television and media cabinet, I laid this FAUX CEDAR GARLAND and sprinkled in some DRIED ORANGE SLICES for a natural touch (find similar ones here).
Next to our media cabinet is this stoneware vase filled with more of those DOGWOOD CLIPPINGS – I collected a LOT OF THEM! They are easy to store and can be re-used, season after season. To finish things off, I TIED THIS VELVET RIBBON around the vase for a touch of elegance.
Over by our armchairs, I simply filled a wooden bowl with PINECONES AND NUTS which I have had for years and re-use each season.
Our Dining Room & Kitchen
Across from our ‘living room’ area is our dining room.
It is SIMPLY DECORATED with items I already own. This includes a TABLETOP CHRISTMAS TREE placed in a THRIFTED BASKET, CHRISTMAS VILLAGE HOMES, and TWINKLE LIGHTS.
New this year is this PINE GARLAND (purchased here in Canada – they sell out fast! – but you can find similar ones at Afloral in the US and on Etsy) which I hung up using 2 COMMAND HOOKS – one on either side of the mirror – and tied off with RED VELVET RIBBON (like this one).
Next to our dining room is our KITCHEN that is decorated with just a few items for maximum impact.
Because I have dreams of renovating our kitchen one day, I always find it difficult to decorate this area of the home! But one thing that I am truly loving this year – a repeat of last year’s look – is the addition of 3 NORFOLK PINE GARLANDS (mentioned above) hung using – you guessed it! – COMMAND HOOKS above our cabinets and tied off with even more of that RED VELVET RIBBON!
Right off the kitchen is this DIY GALLERY WALL and console table that also got the holiday treatment.
I added a PRE-LIT WREATH and DRAPED THIS RIBBON along the bottom. (I hung the wreath by attaching a COMMAND HOOK to the plexiglass cover of the framed print – easy-peasy!)
Flanking our prayer plant on the console table is a MINI TREE IN A THRIFTED BASKET at one end and a pair of WOODEN TREES on the other (there are so many styles out there!).
So THERE YOU HAVE IT! Our Natural Classic CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR IS OFFICIALLY OVER.
Our cat Frite is glad it’s done – he’s pooped!
I hope you enjoyed the tour and that you got some inspiration for your own holiday decorating this year (and next!).
Happy holidays,
