I absolutely LOVE Moroccan style area rugs. Their soft textures and geometric patterns work incredibly well in the modern home while also retaining their classic vintage appeal. I think they’re such a great way to update a space without doing much else. Just add a rug and – POOF! – you’ve got instant eye candy in your living room, bedroom, basement or den. Today, I’m sharing my 9 favourite neutral Moroccan style area rugs that will instantly update any space.
For a long while now, I’ve been on the look-out for a large and good quality Moroccan style area rug to replace our current shag in the living room. While the shag has been suitable for our purposes these last eight years (i.e., cheap and cheerful), it’s now time to move it into the basement to make room for something a bit more fresh.
Today, I’m excited to share with you those that have made my short list. They come from three online shops with a lot of stunning pieces to choose from: Viyet, West Elm and Amazon. Each one carries a variety of rugs at various price-points that are sure to appeal to the heart of any home decor enthusiast who loves mixing vintage and modern styles in their home.
For me, nothing beats a moroccan-inspired rug design with a neutral base. There is something both modern as well as classic in this combination that I absolutely adore.
Moroccan rugs have certainly stood the test of time! They represent vintage pieces that have a kind of longevity that transcend many home decor trends. New styles will come and go, but a classic piece like this will never go out of style.
This is so important to me in choosing our next living room rug. And, well, I am taking my time to choose wisely and within our budget. ‘Cause, let’s face it: a rug is a major purchase and can make or break the look and feel of a space.
For that reason, my plan is to replace our current neutral rug (a bit plain and boring) for another neutral rug, but this time, for one with a modern (& Moroccan) twist.
A tall order, you say? Not so!
Not with this lineup of Moroccan beauties that I’m going to share with you. Scroll down and take a look for yourself and tell me what you think of this collection of 9 neutral Moroccan style area rugs that made the cut.

September 8, 2018 at 6:47 pmI agreed, Katie. The neutral base means they can be added anywhere, but the designs on them are what make them a real stand-out. Making a decision for my space is going to be pretty tough!

September 29, 2018 at 12:09 pmYes, I totally agree with you Morgan. They make a great statement on their own, but also blend well within a space. It’s hard to find that balance, but I think these vintage and vintage-inspired beauties can achieve that perfect design blend 🙂
