Welcome to my annual fall home tour! This year, I’m keeping things low-key with simple swaps that are affordable and easy to incorporate. Whether you love to go all out for fall (as I sometimes do on our front porch!) or enjoy adding just one or two seasonal pieces, I hope you’ll get some inspiration in today’s blog post. It’s all about soft and subtle fall decorating ideas using texture and warmth without depending too much upon traditional ‘fall’ themes to capture that cozy, autumn vibe at home.
SOFT & SUBTLE FALL DECORATING IDEAS
Before showing you the full tour (you can skip the tips by scrolling further down to the tour), I wanted to share with you my simple approach to transitioning from summer to fall. By swapping out items and adding a sprinkle of moodier hues, I like capturing the essence of the season without too much effort.
1. FLORAL SWAPS
This year, the first thing I did was swap out greenery with dried flowers. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught my ‘mini fall haul’ (in my Fall 2022 highlights) where I shared my dried floral (and other) finds.
After bringing them home, I decided to place them in a dark vase for a ‘moodier’ effect.
I also added a neutral fresh floral arrangement in these DIY leather wrapped vases. (I love how much warmth this faux leather adds to my space).
(Check out my tutorial on How to Make a DIY Leather Wrapped Vase.)
2. TEXTILE SWAPS
You don’t need to overhaul your entire space to add that seasonal warmth we are all looking for. As I’ve discussed previously on the blog, simply ‘shop’ your home when making seasonal transitions.
Since most of my throw blankets and pillows are ‘neutral,’ I made one swap here – removing this ivory throw blanket for this warm, checkered one – to add some colour.
You can do the same with pillows, curtains, and even rugs for a subtle seasonal look.
3. NATURAL & NATURE-INSPIRED ELEMENTS
It’s not always about the pumpkins or pinecones (or whatever you associate with fall). BUT, if you wish to add in traditional seasonal elements – as I do – without being overly ‘themed’ my favourite approach is to sprinkle them in.
Below, I added in these oversized pinecones to a coffee table vignette. While the scale of the pinecones is large, they integrate easily with all the other pieces without ‘hogging’ the spotlight.
Here, I’ve added a throw blanket with a ‘traditional’ fall leaf motif, but one that does not demand much attention.
There are so many ways to add in that soft and subtle fall feel without a lot of fuss and still give you that fall feeling that we all love!
Okay, enough ‘talk.’ On with the tour!
🍂 COME ON IN: MY FALL HOME TOUR 🍂
I hope you enjoyed this year’s fall home tour and that you’ve got some inspiration for your own fall decorating at home. I’m still adding a few more touches in other parts of the home, but it already feels like fall around here.
It does not take much effort or cost to add in a bit of warmth or seasonality into your space. And it’s a wonderful way to welcome fall!
