White Dining Chair Finds (+ My Design Plans)

Aug. 04, 2020

My dining area is badly in need of an update! It’s always felt a little ‘meh’ to me and I’m finally going to refresh the space. Today, on the blog, I’m sharing my design plans for it, along with these modern white dining chair finds that made it into my must-have list (links to all chairs can be found at the bottom of this post).

When we first moved into our home 10 years ago, one of the first purchases we made was an acacia wood dining room table and buffet set. They were the display model, slightly scratched up, and bought at a significantly reduced price.

Next came some IKEA Henriksdal dining chairs and, lastly, an oversized mirror to finish things off.

Except for the decor, not much has changed over the years:

With hardly any colour contrasts or textural variation, it’s always felt a little bland and boring.

Part of that was just my own lack of attention to it. I just never had the right vision or design plans that ‘spoke to me.’

That is, until recently when I found the perfect dining room chairs.

All it took was this one find to set me off on the road to finally updating my dining space!

Dining Room Design Plans

With a view to refresh my dining space (rather than an all-out transformation), I decided to focus on three main items:

  1. New dining chairs (definitely the biggest investment)
  2. A rug to anchor the area (indoor/outdoor or something that can be spot-cleaned)
  3. Accessories

Because my dining space is located in our Great Room, I wanted any new pieces to harmonize with the rest of the space – which is a mix of wood tones, whites, creams, and touches of black – while also contrasting with my ‘boring brown’ dining area.

White chairs were, therefore, the natural choice for me. Not to mention, I love my whites!

They also had to fit 3 basic criteria:

  1. Non-upholstered (to keep a certain pair of kitty cats from clawing away at them!)
  2. Wipe-able (for easy cleaning)
  3. ‘Keep it practical’ (for my hubby’s sake!)

After several weeks of searching, I finally found the perfect chairs (can’t wait to share the final reveal with you all soon).
