I love wreaths. I love ‘em in all shapes and sizes. I love displaying them both indoors and out. And I love that each season gives me an excuse to hang a new one on my front door. Are you with me on that? For my front door this fall, I decided to keep things real simple with a Wild Rustic Wreath DIY. It’s one of my favourite wreaths (okay, so I say that every time, but it’s true!) and I am so excited to share the easy step-by-step instructions in today’s blog post 🙂

Wild Rustic Wreath DIY – Materials Needed
- Hot glue gun (low-temp) + glue sticks
- Wire clippers like the one pictured or any of these (or small garden clippers)
- Faux or dried flowers and greenery (see craft stores like Michaels and search on Amazon, too)
- Wild wreath form (I purchased mine at Michaels. I found a few similar ones of various sizes on Amazon here, here, and here).
I chose a mix of faux and dried greenery and florals with a colour palette that had a warm, autumn vibe.
In several of my wreath DIYs, I haven’t had to use a glue gun (as with this Faux Wildflower Wreath DIY or this Fresh Boxwood Wreath). But because I was working with dried flowers which are often more delicate and break easily, I knew that I would need to use a hot glue gun for this project.
Wild Rustic Wreath DIY – Time To Decorate
First, I glued on the longest pieces, starting with the tall dark grasses to create added depth.
Tip: When gluing on a bundle of grasses, bunch them together, add glue directly onto the bundled stems, then press the bundle against the wreath. Then add more glue on top so the individual pieces stick together.
Don’t worry about the glue showing through in these initial stages (the clear ‘gunk’ in the picture above). You’ll be adding in bulkier pieces overtop.
Next, I added light colour twigs by adding glue to the stems and then inserting them between the vines of the wreath.
It’s difficult to see the twigs, so here they are up close.
Continue adding the remaining embellishments. Keep in mind the order so that the pieces you’d like to show through the most should be added in last.
Note: For any pieces with stems, add the glue directly onto the stem and then insert into the wreath. For those pieces whose stems are too short, add a dollop of glue onto the item itself (or add glue directly onto the wreath) and press it against the wreath for a few seconds to allow the glue to dry.
And make sure to avoid a predictable pattern. Random placement of your embellishments will ensure that your creation is in keeping with that wild and rustic feel!
And now, the final touch: wild, dried orange berries. Just perfect for fall!
And, voila! You’ve got yourself a wild rustic wreath diy, all ready to hang indoors or out.
I love the sense of whimsy in this wreath. The wild nature of it just exudes the coziest autumn vibe:)I hope you got some inspiration to create your own wild rustic wreath this season. I’m really happy with how this one turned out and can’t wait to hang it outside.
Happy wreath-making 🙂

September 23, 2019 at 2:14 pmI love it, Jelica! Your wreaths are always so pretty.
Wild is a good word to describe it, I like how it’s sticking out every which way! A bit like my hair most days 😛

September 23, 2019 at 7:07 pmLol! Thank you, Vivien. I’m definitely gravitating towards the ‘wilder’ fall decor these days. It’s definitely in keeping with some of the rustic and vintage elements around here (including me!). Have a great week :0
